Here's a fascinating quotation for you:"I would guess if we had gone in there, I would still have forces inBaghdad today. We'd be running the country. We would not have been able toget everybody
out and bring everybody home...""And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties isSaddam (Hussein) worth? And the answer is not that damned many. So, I thinkwe got it right,
both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but alsowhen the president made the decision that we'd achieved our objectives andwe were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to
takeover and govern Iraq."--Dick Cheney,1992

So, my boss showed me something amazing today. I don't know if LJ will let me embed stuff via email, so I'll link to the video here. This guy appears tobe running for an actual position in
government, and it seems that Japan's political process allows all candidates equal, uncensored time to present their platform, on television, to the people. It's worth watching the video for his
occasional gestures, but I am so convinced that this is the most quotable piece of political speech ever written that I have transcribed it in its entirety, directly from the subtitles. I have
bolded my favorite bits.----------Governor of Tokyo candidate, Independent Candidate Toyama Koichi, age 36Starting as a Anti-Administrative Education Activist, then becoming an Anti-Establishment
Extreme Left Wing Activist. In this day and age, he was imprisoned 2 years for political crimes. He is a Anti Establishment Intellectual. The following is Mr. Toyama Koichi's Political
Broadcast.[long glaring pause, then he leans into the camera in an attempt to be intimidating]To all the voters! I am Toyama Koichi. Gentlemen! This nation is horrible. I have no interest
whatsoever in political reform or any kind of reform. Nothing will be solved by reforming or changing anything. We are no longer in such an optimistic state! We must abandon this detestable nation.
This nation must be destroyed! I do not have a single constructive proposal! The only thing we must do now is "Scrap and Scrap" . . . Annihilate everything that exists! Gentlemen! I despise each
and every one of you. The people who have supported this worthless nation, this system is YOU! To be precise, the majority of the people who are watching this are my Sworn Enemies! I am calling
upon the minority among you people. To the people of the minority! We must unite and rise up immediately! The people of the majority do what they want to us. But now, finally, a world where we the
minority will not be easily oppressed is being constructed! To the people of the minority! If you thin you can change something by voting, you are COMPLETELY wrong. An election is simply a festival
for the majority! There is nothing as idiotic as an election to us minority people. If you choose by majority vote, of course the majority wins! You probably wonder why I'm in the election then.
Because that story will be long. Please look at my posters on the political bulletins. There are 2 types of posters, so be sure to read both. I . . . can no longer tolerate the oppression of this
nation's minority! To the people of the minority! There is no way we can persuade the majority! The people of the majority will not under any circumstances listen to our voices! A fucked up nation
like this, where the majority rules, has no other option but to be destroyed! NO MATTER HOW MUCH REFORM IS DONE THERE IS NO HOPE! Every single one of the political reforms being proposed presently
are all reforms for the Majority of the People! We the Minority obviously will not support or anticipate the results for any of these reforms! We the Minority no longer ask anything from such a
nation. We the Minority only have one option left: TO OBLITERATE THIS NATION! To be completely honest, THE ONLY PATH WE HAVE IS TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT! I speak to the people of the minority!
Let us use my broadcast as an opportunity to further our ferocious, terrifying plans of overthrowing the government. There is information on how to contact me on the posters. I do not care if you
contact me before or after the elections. Please give me a phone call. Of course, I do not care if you are underage and do not yet have voting rights, or if you live outside the City of Tokyo.
Elections never had anything to do with us Minority. I have one thing to state just in case. If I get elected, They will be terrified. I myself will be terrified. Give Toyama Koichi 1 Spiteful,
Malicious Vote! Give Toyama Koichi 1 Desperate Vote! If not, then don't go vote! Nothing will be changed through elections anyways! [shakes middle finger haphazardly at the camera nine times, then
cracks neck briskly]----------Magnificent, wasn't it? For all I know, that was subtitled by some punkass in a basement in Omaha, but dear god, I hope that's for real, and that guy is actually
talking about a concert he went to.

The verdict is in, and everyone agrees: the new Dinosaur Jr. album sounds exactly like an old Dinosaur Jr. album, which is a pretty good thing. I believe this will be one of the few major
exceptions that proves the rule that "returns to form" are generally loads of crap that don't sound like the good ol' days unless you're in complete denial and hanging onto the delusion that your
favorite band is still good. This really should have gone on my multiply page and not here, but oh, wait, I can't access that site anymore.* FUCK.Please ignore the massive formatting errors that
I'm sure will occur in the next paragraph.Mitt Romney is reading "Battlefield Earth." Chuck Hagel wants to get us the fuck out of Iraq, and Bob Novak is writing sympathetic columns about it. Mike
Huckabee is trying to sell himself as a Family Values candidate, meanwhile his son is trying to bring a loaded gun on an airplane. Paul Wolfowitz is involved in a double-header scandal of sex tied
to corruption. I haven't had this much fun reading about the GOP since the day they lost the midterms and Rumsfeld resigned. Meanwhile, David Broder is writing glowing articles talking about all
the awesome, awesome candidates that are running for the Democratic nomination. If Dick Cheney has a heart attack tonight while he's fellating a 15-year-old illegal Mexican immigrant, I'm getting a
cigar and a case of champagne.***fucking fascists.**On the other hand, if that happens, Bush will resign and appoint HarrietMiers to replace him.
